[ MUSIC MONDAY // fun. ]
how can you not love a band that goes by the name of “fun.” ?! seriously- it’s nearly impossible. fun. is comprised of three fabulously talented men: nate ruess [of the format], andrew dost [of anathallo] and jack antonoff [of steel train]. with fabulously sunny songs, their sound is easily unique and refreshing. they flawlessly combine an innocent pop element, all while staying true to their self proclaimed “indie” style.
ruess’ split with the format opened new doors for musical exploration. after teaming up with dost [a former tour mate] and antonoff [a friend of dost’s], magic was born in the form of complex harmonies and melodies, layered with a sense of nostalgia mixed with the feeling of being alive. as far as lyrical subject matter, ruess sites the theme is based upon the framework of personal doubt- “…wondering what there is to hold onto as you get older.”
with vibrant instruments used combined with ruess’ beautifully strained vocals, fun. captures the essence of life- without being inauthentic.
their debut album, aim and ignite, is now available. some of my favorite tracks? benson hedges, be calm, at least i’m not sad (as i used to be).
